Telluride Wine Festival Supports Local Youth with Over $40,000 in Contributions!

TELLURIDE, Colo. (March 13, 2007) —Organizers of the 26th Annual Telluride Wine Festival are getting ready to sign a few checks, and they couldn’t be happier! This week, proceeds from the 2006 Festival will be distributed to charities supporting local youth programs as well as the Telluride Medical Center Capital Fund. The event organizers are delighted to give the money away!

“I believe the biggest highlight from the 2006 festival was that our Live Auction proceeds went from $12,000 to $44,500, all of which went into the community,” says Matt Bradley, event manager. “We are ecstatic to be able to help these great local organizations.”

Proceeds will be distributed as follows:
Telluride Ski and Snowboard Club $10,000
Hoot’s Freeride Fund$15,000
Telluride Association of Realtors/Academic Scholarship$ 4,500
Telluride Medical Center Capital Fund$15,000

For 2007, the Wine Festival will look forward to raising even more money for its partner organizations. The Telluride Ski and Snowboard Club provides regional youth competitive skiing and snowboarding programs. Funds are used to ensure that all young athletes who want to participate, have the opportunity to do so. In 2006, many of the club’s skiers and riders qualified for regional and national championships. Hoot’s Freeride Fund was created in honor local freerider “Hoot” Brown. This Freeride fund and the Telluride Association of Realtors provide scholarships to youths for activities from Freeride competitions to academics.

Plans are aggressively underway for the 26th Annual Telluride Wine Festival -- this year promises to be even better than ever! Already on the agenda for this year’s event, scheduled for June 28th through July 1st, is a Celebration of Spanish Foods and Wines presented by Steve Olson. Other programs that will delight the senses include seminars such as “Wines from Down Under” and “Great Pinots of the North West”; Cooking demonstrations; and winemaker Luncheons. This year’s reserve program will feature four classroom-style tastings limited to 50 people with renowned sommeliers leading these seminars -- Reserve Wines of Spain, Reserve Bordeaux, and The Best of Sparkling Wines -- definitely an experience not be missed by any wine enthusiast.

A few of the participating wineries confirmed to date are: Chappellet Winery, Domaine Carneros by Taittinger, Trefethen Vineyards, Quady Winery, Heck Estates, Four Vines, and Marshall Family Wines.

The Telluride Wine Festival is not all about wine – there’s also an incredible line-up of Culinary Experts who will get taste buds tingling. Karen DeMasco, James Beard Pastry Chef of the Year 2005, will treat festival goers to the finest desserts in the country. Michelle Bernstein, 2005 James Beard Foundation Chef of the Year, will be bringing her Latin influence from Miami’s hottest Bistro, Michey’s. Executive Chef Siegfried and Chef Bertrand Bouquin of the world famous Broadmoor Resort, Chef Andy Nusser from Casa Mono, and Chef Alexandra Raij from Tia Pol will round out the weekend’s culinary extravaganza. This year’s event is shaping up to be one of the best ever!

Held in the historic town of Telluride, high in the San Juan Mountains of Southwestern Colorado amid stunning views of snowcapped peaks soaring to more than 14,000 feet above sea level, the Telluride Wine Festival is the longest-running event of its kind in the Rocky Mountains and is indeed unique. The four day event - held throughout town and in Mountain Village, just a gondola ride away, is a wine and food event not to be missed. Telluride Wine Festival is a nonprofit organization.
